It’s been a few days since we returned from Bournemouth, UK, and I’m still not fully re-adjusted to my environment just yet. A year away didn’t result in a culture shock on our return or anything drastic like that - it’s been a case of re-acquainting ourselves with what we used to know and do and trying to get back to normal so far. Kinda. Anyway, after landing in Singapore on Friday evening, we dropped by my mom’s house for a meal of satay and fried mee hoon and did a quick visit to my younger sister who recently gave birth to an adorable baby boy, before finally stumbling back into our musky, dusty home. The next day was another day spent visiting - this time to my in-laws - but not before checking out a few car showrooms for our next possible family car purchase (over the past few days I’ve learned to appreciate the benefits of owning a car to get around in Singapore when your family includes 2 hyperactive young boys). Hopefully we’ll have a decent ride before Hari Raya Aidilfitri comes around late October. Sunday was basically spent getting ourselves wired up again with new cable TV, internet and mobile phone subscriptions.

Then it’s back to work for me first thing Monday morning. I must admit at first glance, not much has changed around the office - both physically and people-wise. They did move me to another room though. I’ll probably notice more changes in my surroundings as time go by. Of course it’ll take awhile before all the paperwork gets settled and I’m back in the groove functioning like a normal employee again, but hopefully it won’t take too long for me to acclimatize myself once more to the demands of my job. At least I’ve got a few more days before the new semester starts and the mayhem begins. At the moment it’s a case of prioritizing what gets done first and ensuring I get the important tasks out of the way as soon as possible.

At the end of the day, I just hope the past year spent honing my skills and enhancing my knowledge in animation, as well as the great friends I’ve made and the accumulation of all those enriching life experiences, don’t get pushed aside and forgotten. It’s much too valuable to me and it would be a shame if that were to happen. I definitely want to move onwards and progress, and so I have to be careful not to revert back to that life I’ve been living before we left on our adventure.
