Sketches - Mat Rock and His Guitar.

Mat Rock and His Guitar

I’ve been keeping in contact on and off with an ex-colleague of mine who’s a self-proclaimed undercover hippy; a free-spirited songwriter cum DJ cum world traveler. Billy’s living the envious happy-go-lucky life playing gigs all over the place and writing (and selling online) songs. A recent message he sent got me inspired to do a couple more quick pencil sketches for him. See, a few years back he thought a drawing I did of a “Mat Rock” (that’s a typical term for a malay rocker for those not in the know) was pretty cool, and I gave him permission to use it for his website/album promo. Apparently, his fans liked it too and have been asking for more. And as usual, I never got round to doing anything about it. Till now. Actually, I just felt like chilling out after a pretty crummy day and do something totally unrelated to work or 3d for a bit (strangely it seems to be a recurrent theme for me these past few days) so sketching seemed like a good idea. Besides, I haven’t been practicing lately so…  Hope y’all like it.

Go on then, tell me what you think?

  1. WohOoo Mat Rock! Old school… Nice… I like…

  2. Glad you like it Fiza! :) I’m gonna have to tweak the drawings a little for my friend - I need to make it look much more like him. But I might just leave this version here as it is. We’ll see…

  3. Your simple style has somewhat a brighter future in the world of rock. I remember a music video by Queen for their song “Save Me” from the album “The Game” and this is the same style (sort of) of sketch to animate. Same goes with A-ha’s “Take on me”, remember that? Try to practice more and you’ll be doing great! It’s also relatively closer to 70’s style of sketch with all those peace signs and flower power thing but with a new twist! Go on, do what thou wilt & your sketches will get you where you want to go!

  4. Amazing…The way you use simple line drawings just makes it that much awesome…i love it and its inspired me to continue in this style….Thankyou and keep the good work up man!
