I teach character animation full-time at a local polytechnic here in Singapore. I am also coordinating curriculum development in the area of 3d graphics and animation for the institution’s digital media diploma programme. Even though I have been teaching since 2001, I have always been active in the pursuit of personal and professional development, and believe that we should never stop learning if we are to remain relevant and credible.
Here are some of my most recent achievements:
- 2008: Student Volunteers Chair for the inaugaral SIGGRAPH Asia 2008 international computer graphics conference held in Singapore in December.
- 2007: Character animator on the fully 3d animated feature film “Sing to The Dawn” at Infinite Frameworks Studios in Batam Indonesia from August to December.
- 2006: Obtained MA in 3D Computer Animation (with Distinction) from the NCCA at Bournemouth University, UK.
Although I have experience in various stages of the 3D production pipeline, my main areas of interest are visual storytelling and character animation.
I suppose it’s just a natural extension from my love for drawing. Cartoons on TV and superhero comics were a major part of my diet growing up. I’ve also been sketching as far back as I can remember, so life drawing and portraiture came quite naturally for me. Like all skills though, drawing requires constant practice. The less you work on it the rustier it becomes, right?
