About Me
I teach drawing and animation-related subjects full-time at a local polytechnic and have been doing so over six years now. I took a year’s break from Sept. ‘05 to Sept. ‘06 to obtain my MA in 3D Computer Animation (with Distinction) from the NCCA in Bournemouth University, UK. Suffice to say, it was an unforgettable experience.
Before joining the polytechnic, I worked for a couple of years in small multimedia houses doing 3D modeling and animation - mostly architectural walkthroughs and training courseware. I eventually moved on and hooked up with a friend to run our own small animation company for awhile, before landing this teaching gig.
I’ve previously been a 3DS Max user (having tinkered around with it since the old DOS version circa 1994), but discovered my love for Softimage XSI when I picked it up during the MA course. Now I’m using Maya at work. I’m at the stage now where, even though I might have my own personal favourite application, I would rather not get into a “Which software is best?” discussion and look beyond all the endless comparisons. I’d just use what I’m presented with and get down to what’s really important - the end result.
I have discovered that, although I have a decent understanding of various aspects of 3D production, my main area of interest is in character animation and visual storytelling.
Aside from messing about with animation, I really enjoy sketching. I’ve been drawing superheroes as far back as I can remember. Life drawing and portraiture came quite naturally for me afterwards.
I’m an old comic fan (mainly Marvelite with a sprinkling of DC and indie love), and obviously one of my dreams is to get my own comics published or at the very least get a decent webcomic running. Did I mention I’m crazy about visual storytelling?
