“Carrier” Comic Uploaded.

July 4th, 2007 Ahmad Al-Mahir

I took a teeny tiny detour from work-related matters to finally upload the stuff I’ve done for “Carrier”. Right now they’re located in individual Pages so it’s not quite as clean and organized as I’d like (you can access the first page from the orange menu bar above, then freely access the rest from the links at the bottom of the website). I’m still trying to figure out how to make ComicPress work with the present set up that I have for my site, so until then, this will just have to do. With regards to this comic project, I did all the artwork while my pal Hafiz came up with the story and script. The images I’ve put up are kinda large in resolution (700×990 pix per page) so I apologize for any slow load times. They are compressed jpegs though. I just felt that if I shrunk them any smaller the text won’t be readable. Hey, at least it’s something, right?

Anyway, I hope you check it out and drop me a line to tell me if it’s a pretty weak attempt or if we’ve got something good going here…
Catcha laters peeps!

“Carrier” Submitted. New Semester Preparations Continue.

March 17th, 2007 Ahmad Al-Mahir

After almost a month of intermittent work, I’ve finally finished layouts and artwork for all 10 pages of the comic project I was telling you about - “Carrier”. It’s been penciled, scanned, lettered, printed, compiled and submitted for consideration. Now all we have to do is wait for a reply from the organizers. Not to get my hopes up but, I must admit, it would be sweet to have the project selected for further development :) I can’t post any of the pages up here since they’re still being judged, but I’ll definitely upload something as soon as I get the green light.

Anyway, nothing to do now but wait. Besides, I have tons of work preparing for the coming semester that’ll keep me busy for awhile. I have some pretty big plans for my animation module and I’m just hoping I can implement it all and do a good job of it. Expect a few short animation exercises to be uploaded along the way. I won’t be abandoning “Carrier” completely though, no matter what the result of the competition may be. It’ll just be moving a lot slower for the moment. Already another comic project is waiting in the wings. More updates on that one later perhaps. And is that the whiff of another 3d animated short film project I smell? Hmmmm…

Note to self: Must post more regularly.

“Carrier” Sketches.

February 7th, 2007 Ahmad Al-Mahir

I finally got my account back and updated my credit card details so we’re back in business!

As promised, here are a couple of sketches done for that comic project I’m collaborating on. The 3 kids are main characters in the story (which I’m not at liberty to reveal at this point in time) and the other image is a draft layout of one of the pages. I sketched them small on an A5 sketchbook just to get a feel for the characters and layouts. I’m trying to go about creating the artwork in a method commonly used by the professionals - churn out lots of thumbnails before drawing on the big boards. In this case it’ll get translated to A4 for submission. It’s definitely a challenge for me coming up with layouts that flow along nicely and provide maximum impact. Then I have to try and fit all that graphics and text into those tiny panels! I’m having a blast with the whole process though. Good fun! It’s all part of the learning process anyways, right? Enjoy!
