The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do and How to Change by Charles Duhigg
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I really enjoyed this book. The author lays out the content clearly and presents his concepts well (with a great step-by-step framework at the end). The real life stories he uses as examples are very engaging and spread out nicely throughout the book. The 1st 2 parts: Habits of Individuals and Habits of Successful Organizations are the most interesting to me. In part 1, I understood the habit loop and how it can be tweaked for transformation to occur. In part 2, I learned how habits introduced at companies like Alcoa and Starbucks helped make them successful and great places to work. Part 3 is about Habits of Societies, and while I did not find it as interesting, the story of Mrs Bachmann does stand out to me as a sober reminder of the danger of gambling. I can’t wait to try out the framework and will likely refer to this book ever so often.
Highly recommended.
